Deciphering Weather Meanings in Dreams

As we all know by now, dream symbols can be challenging! The last blog discussed the seasons; this blog will look at deciphering the symbolic meaning of weather in your dream.

Storms

Hurricanes, thunderstorms, blizzards. They all wreak havoc in their own special way. The first thing I believe is vital is understanding that just because you dream of a storm headed your way doesn’t mean it’s inevitable. That’s right, God may warn you so you can STOP something bad before it happens. If you dream of a coming storm, you must ask the Lord if this storm is stoppable. You don’t have to weather every storm that targets you, but you will need to know how to combat them, and that is an upcoming blog series.

What does the storm do in the physical world? Hurricanes are devastating. They are hundreds of miles across, produce winds up to 185mph, dump rain by the foot, and spawn severe thunderstorms and tornados. For some, God may call you to pray against literal hurricanes.

Severe thunderstorms are usually fast-moving events unless you get caught in a line of them! They produce rain, wind, hail, and lightning, and I strongly suggest you read about these events in the Bible. Hail was used as part of the judgment on Egypt to ruin their crops. If the hail is big enough, it damages vehicles and breaks windows.

While some of us may be afraid of thunder and lightning, God’s voice is described as thunder and Jesus saw Satan fall like lightning.

Revelation 4:5 describes the throne:

“Out of the throne proceed lightnings, sounds, and thunders.” (WEB)

Thunder and lightning can represent power!

Wind

The strength of the wind is impressive! It can topple trees, destroy houses, and cause small objects to impale into larger objects. While the wind can be destructive, it can also symbolize the Holy Spirit. Acts 2 talks about the Holy Spirit coming in like a wind.

Hurricanes have a wind field hundreds of miles across, but tornados have a relatively small path of destruction. A house can be leveled on one side of the street and remain untouched on the other.

What color is the tornado? My experience has been that dark tornados are bad in some way, but white tornados are good. I have a lot of tornado dreams. While some are a warning, others are good things coming in as a whirlwind. As I keep saying, symbols can be good or bad.

How are you reacting to the wind in your dream? Are you afraid? Is there destruction? Are the skies dark and stormy or sunny? There are many things to consider.

Rain and Snow

Rain is often a symbol of blessings. God gives the spring and fall rains to produce crops. However, the amount and timing of the rain are critical. Too much, and the crops will die. Likewise, if there is too little, the crops will die. Rain can also be a symbol of gloom and depression.

Snow

Snow is often considered cleansing and blessing. I can honestly say that is not what it symbolized for me! I spent several years as a landscaper. Part of that job was snow removal in the winter. Whenever my dreams had snow, I looked at two things: Was it still snowing? Or had it stopped? And were the parking lots, roads, and sidewalks waiting to be plowed and shoveled?

When my dreams were about snow-covered areas, I knew I needed to “remove” something covering my path. If it was snowing, I was in the middle of a storm. Whatever the issue, it was still going on and needed addressing.

As you can see, God may be speaking through weather events in dreams about many things. Consider how you feel in the dream, and don’t forget to look into the scriptures.

Until next time under the palm, be blessed!
